IMPORTANT HOLLOW MOLDED COPPER GRASSHOPPER WEATHERVANE.

Last quarter 19 century attributed to L.W. Cushing and sons, Waltham, Mass. This rare example with very well detailed body and nice verdigris and gilt surface. 4The grasshopper retains back spine and cardinals, now with museum base. This form of grasshopper vane is pictured on pg 18 of the 1852 “Catalog of Weathervanes Manufactured by L.W. Cushing” For the sale of a similar example, reference Lot 268 “important American Furniture, Folk Art, Silver, Prints and Decoys by Christie’s” January 18, 2007 New York. SIZE: 29-1/2″ h. 41″ l. PROVENANCE: From an old Sands Point, NY collection.
