UNUSUAL FRENCH MARBLE AND GILT BRONZE SHELF CLOCK.

First quarter 19th century, France. The unmarked brass movement with time and strike apertures, striking on the half hour, with rack and snail strike system and with convex door. The enameled dial marked “A Paris“. The movement mounted within an architectural triangular black marble case surmounted by brass sphere, the edges with gilt metal rope twist edges raised on paw feet above a white marble alcove flanked by gilt metal mounted corbels. The whole on a white marble plinth, a foliate scrolling cast-metal bracket mounted within the frieze flanked by cast rosettes further flanked by gilt metal plaques. The clock on suppressed ball feet. SIZE: 25-1/2″ t x 14″ w x 7” d. CONDITION: Movement appears to be operable. Key is present. Several cast elements missing along upper border of white marble base. One gilt metal plaque missing from side panel. Ormolo border to gray marble flooring absent. Generally in “as found” condition. The rear door glass with crack. 51018-2 (400-500) – Lot 2201
