CIVIL WAR BROADSIDE “GRAND RECEPTION OF VOLUNTEERS ON THEIR RETURN FROM THE WAR…” JULY 23, 1861.

Foxboro July 23, 1861. The broadside is referring to the 4th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteers Company F of Foxboro and had served three months service. The timing could not have been worse and the reception may have been muted because the news had just arrived of the embarrassing Union defeat at Bull Run. The broadside was printed likely only a day or two before the date of the event and it was not until the 23rd that more accurate accounts appeared in the Boston papers. Unframed. SIZE: 13-1/2″ h x 6-3/4″ w. CONDITION: Very good with foxing spots. 9-25017 (300-500) – Lot 2200
