ONE CENT MUTOSCOPE WITH “NAUGHTY” REEL.

Over the years, Mutoscope made many various models, and this was one of the more simplistic units produced. Even today, these machines are still being operated at certain amusement parks around the country. This particular example is on a steel framed pedestal set for child’s height with the viewer set atop and the original iron marquee depicting what was showing that day atop the viewer itself. These machines were a goldmine for an operator, producing huge returns and virtually within less than a minute, the operator could change the reel bundle and marquee so the person would have a constant new selection of images. Very rarely were these machines inoperable. Perhaps changing a light bulb or unjamming a coin were the typical problems of the day. Of course, it took several pennies to see the entire reel and one could not stop after just one viewing. Machine is good and solid, reel bundle is nice, original marquee and marquee card. As expected, the original finish has been touched up and enhanced over the past 75+ years, but still very acceptable in appearance. The reel depicts a lady in various (for the time) somewhat provocative poses and in various states of undress. Oh my! SIZE: 64 ” h to top of marquee. CONDITION: As stated above. Light bulb flickers, most likely in need of some minor rewiring. 1086-13 (1,000-1,500) – Lot 2199
