VERY RARE ENGRAVED REMINGTON DOUBLE DERINGER TYPE I TRANSITIONAL MODEL NO. 1 FIRST VARIANT PISTOL.

SN 2029. Cal. .41 RF. 3″ bbls, nickel finish, 2-pc rosewood grips. Bbls show Remington address on left rib and Elliot’s patent mark on right rib. Elliot’s patent mark is stamped upside-down. SN is stamped on the left upper inside of the grip frame and under the bbl lug. Deringer is engraved sparsely in a vine style, upper bbl is engraved along both sides and on the rib, lower bbl is plain. Frame is also engraved in a vine scroll with punch-dot background and lined accents. Hammer is engraved on the front of the spur and on the rear surface. Bbl latch is engraved, trigger has an oval checkered face. This is an extremely rare variant of the Remington Double Deringer with address and patent marks on the bbl ribs and having a cartridge ejector. Formerly in the Maurie Fox Collection, this Deringer is also pictured in Doug Eberhart’s Deringer book, vol 2, pg 182. PROVENANCE: Bruce Burtner Collection. CONDITION: Very good. Bbls are a smooth silver/gray patina overall with slight erosion on the right side. All markings are sharp. Engraving is sharp. Bores are dark with only traces of rifling. Frame is also a silver/gray patina. Engraving is slightly washed out on the left recoil shield and is sharp everywhere else. Hammer is engraved on the spur, both sides and rear surface, there are remnants of nickel finish on the hammer which leads this cataloger to believe that this deringer was originally nickel finished, although there is no evidence of that finish anywhere but the hammer. Trigger checkering is sharp. SN’s are sharp. Grips are very good, intact with light handling marks overall.
