EXCEPTIONAL DANISH IRON WITH SILVER OVERLAY.

18th century, Denmark. The wedge shaped iron with brass body. The rear curved gate opening to an interior for heating stone with swivel latch applied with reinforcing copper plates. The top overlaid with intricately scrolled and molded silver ornament joined to the baluster turned walnut handle. The handle raised on square iron supports. SIZE: 6-1/2″ t x 7″ l x 5″ w. CONDITION: All parts original. The handle with old repair at juncture of iron supports. Heating stone absent. As mentioned the gate with repair stabilized by copper bands, riveted together.
