CIVIL WAR – INDIAN WAR ERA NEW HAMPSHIRE BRIGADIER GENERAL ENSEMBLE.

This group includes a fine condition Brig. Gen. frock coat, cased Brig. Gen. epaulets, chapeau-de-bras. Along with militia officers sword, circa 1835. This grouping just came out of a local New Hampshire estate and has never been offered before. PROVENANCE: Recent Exeter Estate. CONDITION: Coat over all is fine with bright dark blue color, velvet cuffs and collar, polished dark green padded lining, coat sleeves have fairly bulbous elbows measuring 8″, cuffs measure 5-3/4″, lining is not hemmed at skirts, and tail pockets are lined with polished brown cotton. There is no name or maker found in coat. Chapeau is white silk lined with a maker “Bent & Bush, Boston”. Epaulets are in fine condition and metal attachments are sewn on shoulders for use. Eagle head pommel militia sword is very good to fine overall with chocolate brown patina, the brass high areas are scratched and scuffed, 30″ straight blade has blue and gold decoration which is partially intact with remainder bright, scabbard has brass drag and brass middle mount though missing throat, pommel is bent down into carved fluted bone grip, knuckle bow is also bent. 9-94810 (2,000-3,000) – Lot 2181
