SMALL EPHEMERA GROUP PERTAINING TO DR. ELEAZAR PARMLY & FAMILY.

Dr. Parmly (1797-1874) was an accomplished dentist in the 19th century, considered the best known figure in the United States in dental surgery and was the founder of the American Journal of Dental Science. He held several patents and authored several books and had done more for dentistry than any other individual. He was considered a very wealthy man and at his death left a fortune of $7 million. He had a dental practice on Bond St. in New York City and socialized with the Vanderbilts, Roosevelts and Astors. The lot includes: 1) two 6″ x 5″ oval pencil drawings of a young Eleazar Parmly and wife. Both were executed by John Nelson Marvle (American 1855-1918). One signed “Marvle 1909”, the other initialed “J.M. 1902″. He practiced his portraiture in New York City; 2) two albumen prints showing eight men and women in interior setting with the Dr. and Mrs. Parmly present; 3) cabinet card showing six family members including the Dr. and his wife; 4) an early photograph of a woman on a bicycle; 5) photograph of a young man behind the wheel of a roadster; 6) six young men and woman at the beach; and 7) two small photo albums, one showing yachts and men and women.
