WILLIE H. BROWN (American, 1808-1883) “MOUNT VERNON”.

Charcoal and ink scene depicts an early scene of Mount Vernon nestled on a knoll. Trees and water with sailboats surround with two people walking up the lawn towards the majestic house. Housed in an early 20th Century painted wood frame. Signed lower right “Willie H. Brown” and titled lower center, possibly attributed to 19th century printer William H. Brown (American, 1808-1883). Note: Composition is similar (but not identical) to and English steel engraving by J. Andrews created in 1840 after a drawing by W. Croome. SIZE: Sight: 17″ x 21-1/4″. Overall 21″ x 25-1/4″. CONDITION: 2″ tears lower right in margin, discoloration, spotting and paper is toned, frame has chips and losses, over-paint. 9-96770 (800-1,200) – Lot 2162
