FINE EARLY GEORGIAN WOOD DOLL.

Most likely this doll is from the late 1700s/early 1800s and the painted surfaces on this doll appear to be in original finish. The clothing is old and quite aged, but not original to her. More than likely, at one point in time, this doll had simplistic arms and legs, which have subsequently been lost. Yet, her overall appearance is outstanding and elegant. At some point a long time ago, a mother redressed this doll and made cloth arms and a bunting below her torso. The painted facial features include a minuscule but well-defined mouth, exaggerated cheek blush, and painted intense eye features. A great package, which could only be better if her extremities were still present, but still a desirable and appealing early doll. SIZE: 12″ h overall. Head to bottom of torso is 6-1/2″ h. CONDITION: Blacklight reveals no paint enhancement. Carved wooden nose has been somewhat worn down with age and devoid of paint. 37883-2 (2,000-4,000) – Lot 2161
