RARE CANTON FOOTED OPEN SALT FROM THE THOMAS JEFFERSON “J” DINNER SERVICE.

Circa 1790’s. Standard Chinese export blue decorated open salt has decorated against its white background a blue shield with knights head monogrammed with a large script “J”. Several pieces of this Chinese export dinner service are documented in the White House collection and The Cincinnati Museum of Art. Through scholarly research and documentation a direct link to Jefferson has not been established nor have shards of this service been excavated at Monticello, it is widely accepted that this service was Jefferson’s and research continues to grow as other pieces are found.
