24-1/2″ PHONOGRAPH TETE JUMEAU.Which came first…the Phonograph Jumeau or the Edison Talking Doll?? The Edison version was marketed first and then the Jumeau version a few years later. Both were most ingenious creations from the latter part of the 19th Century however the Edison version was a commercial failure while the Jumeau version was quite a bit more successful due to its interchangeable records that were also more durable than the wax records of the Edison model. This particular example features an open mouth Tete Jumeau with fine bisque, blue paperweight eyes, and a fully jointed marked “Jumeau” composition body. Attractively dressed in an appropriate Bebe styled outfit with one record present. SIZE: 24-1/2″. CONDITION: As stated above, bisque head appears to be free of any damage such as eye chips, hairlines, and/or cheek rubs. 49025-1 (2,000-2,500) – Lot 2160 Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2015 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
