THREE ORIENTAL RUGS: TEKE BOKHARA, SEMI ANTIQUE SHIRVAN AND ANTIQUE GENJE RUNNER.

Mid 19th to second quarter 20th century. 1) The Bokhara with three rows of eight guls alternating with midnight blue crosses, the main border with tarantula pattern devices, each end with stylized trellis work. The whole in wine red, indigo, and ivory. 2) The Shirvan with rows of dog tooth polychrome geometric devices within multiple guard borders in indigo, ivory and brick red, each with star, tarantula, and polychrome flower heads. 3) The Genje runner with three rows of geometric polychrome medallions on a magenta field within dog tooth indigo and terracotta guard borders. The main ivory border with dense tarantula design, one end marked with date and signature in main border, see photo. SIZE: 1) 3′ 10″ x 4′ 8″. 2) 3′ 2″ x 4′ 8″. 3) 2′ 11″ x 15′ 2″. PROVENANCE: Downeast Maine home, descendant of Knud Rasmussen, famous Danish arctic explorer whose “greatest achievement” was the massive Fifth Thule Expedition (1921–1924) being sold unreserved. CONDITION: 1) With overall wear, foundation showing in central and border areas, losses to end fringe, some unraveling of selvedge. 2) With extensive wear to foundation and with losses to one end. 3) With overall even wear, areas of foundation showing throughout main field, losses to end fringe.
