AFRICAN-AMERICAN PAINT DECORATED JEWELRY BOX.

Last quarter of the 19th Century, Savannah, Georgia. Probably a wedding gift; having the initials “A.H.” painted on the front. The top of the box featuring a prosperous and fashionably dressed young African American couple portrayed with fine detail and in bright polychrome colors. The box with hinged lid, opening to reveal an interior lined with red satin with black lace border; standing on gilded ogee feet composed of period picture frame molding with mitered corners.
