CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY PIECRUST TILT-TOP TEA TABLE.

Circa 1760-1785, Mid-Atlantic or Southern States. A fine example having a round cyma scrolled ‘eight-repeat’ piecrust top with a tip-and-turn birdcage mount, on a superior carved tripartite base. The shaft colonnade carved at the top, over a foliate carved ball with mid-rib and a scrolled top. The shaft waisted below the ball carving with a gadrooned ring above the legs. The legs of bold out-swept cabriole design, with shell and tassel carving on the knees, terminating in elongated claw-and-ball feet with well-defined talons. Figured mahogany with great color and maintained historic surface. REFERENCE: Sotheby’s Auctions.
