RARE AND FINE BELL-METAL POSNET BY LAWRENCE LANGWORTHY (1692-1739), NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND.

This rare example raised on three canted semi-circular legs, the deep round bowl joined to a triangular pinched half-round tapering handle. The handle clearly marked with the makers last name. *NOTE* A similar example sold at Christie’s New York, sale 2635, January 2012, lot #174. SIZE: 7-1/2″ t x 8″ dia. Overall 17″ l to handle. PROVENANCE: This Posnet was discovered in Castine where it was being used to humidify the air while sitting on a woodstove. CONDITION: Structurally very good with normal and expected wear and pitting, the underside of the posnet base etched with an old identification number. The interior with water calcification.
