FINE QUEEN ANNE CHERRY BONNET TOP HIGHBOY.

Connecticut River Valley, circa 1750 – 1775. The lower case with tall fluid cabriole legs, with boldly hocked pad feet and intact under disks. The arcaded skirt with drop pendants. The drawer arrangement consists of a full width drawer over three box drawers, the center drawer with well carved fan with half spheres incised out of the perimeter of the rays. The upper case drawer carving and arrangement corresponds to the lower case. Below the upper tier of drawers are four levels of graduated full width drawers. The upper case with syma scrolled bonnet top with three plinths with urn and flame finials. A unified and well crafted design with pleasing proportions. SIZE: 88″ h overall to top of center finial. Lower case: 38-5/8″ w x 18-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: From a Maine/Texas estate being sold unreserved. CONDITION: Restored. Overall good, retains original brass, finials older replacements, some age cracks to sides of both cases, tymphanum, sheeting boards of the bonnet top. Some additional nails in drawers, lip repairs, and possible replacement of one or more knee blocks. The surface has an amalgam of old finish with very dark 20th century over-finish. The dark outer finish makes it difficult to determine the extent of probable restoration which could be significant. Some drawer guides in lower case replaced. 51398-21 (5,000-10,000) – Lot 2093
