WELL CARVED CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY CANOPY BED.

Last quarter 18th century. The swelled, reeded, ring-turned posts carved with flower heads and with teardrop elements, continuing to a fluted and reeded column joined to the blocked base terminating in Marlborough feet. The head posts of simple ring-turned cylindrical form joined to cylindrical ring-turned column connected to a thin headboard with rounded edge continuing to square tapered legs on Marlborough feet. Side rails and cross supports with shaped returns, rope ties and double bolt fittings. Note: Rails are currently fitted with angle iron supports designed for custom box spring and mattress for a standard full size bed. SIZE: Overall height: 86″. Interior length: 73-1/2″. Interior width: 51″. PROVENANCE: Original contents from the estate of Louise Alida Livingston, Oyster Bay, L.I., N.Y. Removed from the family home, Greenport L. I., N.Y.
