MARVELOUS STEIFF RIDING CAMEL WITH IDs.Circa 1930s, Germany. A standing, unjointed camel on a metal riding carriage with steering handle. Camel is made from short tan mohair with long brown tipped mohair on its head, neck, front upper thighs, and tail tip. Face is detailed with sculpted eye pockets and nostrils and an airbrushed mouth. The camel rides upon four red metal wheels. With Steiff long trailing “f” style button, traces of paper ear tag, and original red and white pull cord with red wooden knob detailed with a Steiff medallion. This model was produced in 6 sizes ranging from 28 to 80 cm from 1929 through 1943. A camel was Steiff’s first unofficial logo, being the first animal to appear on the cover of the company’s debut catalog of 1892. SIZE: 17-1/2” h (44 cm) x 23” w (58 cm). CONDITION: Fair. Wear consistent with age and nature of item. Missing one eye. Mohair wear and losses, especially on the humps and top of head.
