GROUP OF SEVEN LATE 19TH CENTURY AMERICAN FLAGS, ALL FRAMED.

Flags in this group range from 38 star to 45 star representing different designs of cantons and configurations. Six of the flags are framed identically, only the first flag in this lot is framed with a different frame. 1) 38-star flag commemorating the state of Colorado. Printed on a cotton blend with rich patina. Canton in 6-7-6-6-7-6 configuration. 2) 42-star flag commemorating the state of Washington, 1889-1890. Printed on polished cotton. Canton consists of six rows of seven upside down stars. 3) 42-star flag commemorating the state of Washington, 1889-1890. Printed on cotton. 4) 44-star flag commemorating the state of Wyoming, 1891-1896. Canton is in the desirable “drum” design with star configuration 6-8-8-8-8-6. Printed on silk. 5) 45-star flag printed on polished cotton commemorating the state of Utah, 1896. Canton is unusual with straight rows of upright stars with configuration of 7-8-8-8-8-6. 6) 45-star flag which was official for the state of Utah from 1896-1908. Configuration 8-7-8-7-7-8. Printed on polished cotton. 7) 45-star flag commemorating state of Utah with staggered pattern of six rows of upright stars 8-7-8-7-8-7. Printed on glazed cotton. SIZE: Flags: 1) 28″ x 24″. 2) 24″ x 17-3/4″. 3) 12″ x 16-1/2″. 4) 20″ x 13″. 5) 27-3/4″ x 18″. 6) 20″ x 11-1/2″. 7) 26-1/2″ x 17-1/4″. Frames: 1) 39″ x 27″. 2) 30″ x 24″. 3) 21-1/2″ x 18″. 4) 38″ x 25-3/4″. 5) 38″ x 25-3/4″. 6) 30″ x 24″. 7) 25-1/2″ x 20″. PROVENANCE: The Timothy Gallagher Collection. CONDITION: 1) Fractured especially around fly, probably missing about 1/4 field from the fly giving the appearance of an almost square flag which is quite appealing. 2) Very good overall. Some yellowing and light staining. 3) Very good. Appears almost unused, but there is a small tear on bottom red stripe at the fly. 4) Vibrant colors with some fracturing and cracks that do not effect aesthetics, especially near hoist. 5) Overall very good with some old rolled stain marks. 6) Very good overall. 7) Very good. 51371-29 (2,000-3,000) – Lot 2085
