RARE HALOED STAR MEDALLION 36-STAR AMERICAN FLAG, COMMEMORATING NEVADA, 1865.Printed on muslin. Archivally framed. This flag saw honest use and still has about a dozen rusted nail holes from where it was attached to staff. Flag has beautiful aesthetics and has been re-sewn at the fly end for continued use where it was undoubtedly frayed. Nevada still has “BATTLE BORN” on their state flag due to the vast amounts of mineral resource being mined and financing the Union war effort. This flag became official July 4, 1865, but Lincoln had proclaimed Nevada a state October 31, 1864, just eight days before the Presidential election and of course Nevada voted strongly Republican in the Presidential, Congressional and Legislative Elections. Nevada was by far the least populace of any state or American territory at the time. SIZE: Flag: 33″ x 27″. Frame: 39-3/4″ x 33-1/4″. PROVENANCE: The Timothy Gallagher Collection. CONDITION: Good to very good. Hoist has been trimmed and re-sewn. Red has faded to orange in some areas, with cracking and crazing and several old contemporary repairs near hoist at time of use. There are small reductions at each edge of hoist as can be seen in photos, unaffecting overall aesthetics. 51371-11 (2,000-3,000) – Lot 2069
