ROBERT SALMON (American, 1775-1844) A BRITISH 18-GUN SNOW DEPARTING FROM THE RIVER MERSEY.

Oil on canvas depicting a two masted naval ship resting in harbor, flying the British flag off its stern with several sailing vessels surrounding it. Sailors are boarding the vessel on the port side while another rowboat with several figures are rowing in the left foreground. The weather appears to be fair with calm seas and blue skies with puffy white clouds. The light source coming from the left. Initialed and dated lower right “R.S. 1811″, housed in a carved and molded giltwood frame bearing a presentation plaque. Labels from Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and Royal Exchange Art Gallery, London affixed to verso, stretcher, and frame. SIZE: 22″ x 34”. Overall 27-1/2″ x 39-1/2″ CONDITION: Lined, discolored varnish, restoration throughout, otherwise very good. 51246-3 (30,000-50,000) – Lot 2061
