Late 19th, early 20th century, probably Massachusetts. Whimsical carving of a sperm whale rendered with slightly open jaws and teeth. Tail is slightly raised with remnants of old painted surface. Gray paint over white sizing. Carving with two orig iron hanging rings. Carved from the solid. SIZE: 11-1/2″ h x 34″ l PROVENANCE: From a private Massachusetts collection CONDITION: Structurally sound with multiple old horizontal shrinkage splits.
