FRENCH MARBLE GAME.Outstanding paper litho on cardboard and wood game with paper label reading “Les Torpilleur Nouveau Jeu” (The New Destroyer Game) depicting a nautical battle scene on the box lid. Box unfolds to expose two part playing field decorated as a stylized ocean scene. On one side, a vertical battleship backdrop is inserted. The base features five tracks cut with various score holes for the marbles to land in, each lane containing a wheeled tin ship, each carrying a different country’s flag (France, Britain, U.S., etc.). For game play, there appear to be two parts. One of which marbles are ejected from one side, bound for their respective score holes. For the other part, a spring-loaded mechanism catapults the ships down their respective lanes, perhaps to see which goes the farthest. Opposing decks have been set with painted lead sailors for decoration. A wonderful crossover piece for collectors of games, seafaring military collectors, tin toys, and more. SIZE: 24″ l x 13″ w. when closed. Approximately 48″ l and 12-3/4″ h when open and assembled. CONDITION: Overall good to very good. There has been some settling of the box lid with the top label exhibiting some water staining and a few nibbles.
