AMERICAN TALL CASE CLOCK WITH ROCKING SHIP MOVEMENT.

Late 18th century, northern New England. The birch case having broken arch pediment bonnet with brass finials, scroll arches having cross-hatch inlay rosettes, the bonnet with tapering columns. The case with square molded door and simple string inlay, having quarter columns with brass capitols. The out-stepped base having similar string inlay all atop a scrolling bracket base. Brass time and strike movement having a spiraling gong and rocking ship attachment, the square painted iron face fitted with a concave pediment painted with river scene and having elaborate well detailed rocking ship with a Colonial American Flag. Dial fitted with calendar section and second hand. SIZE: 91″ h. CONDITION: Overall very good, with old refinish, possibly replaced finials, old re-glue to door, drop to front of bracket base, old re-glue or possible replacement. 9-94806 (3,000-5,000) – Lot 2038
