41″ FIRST SERIES MARKLIN “OLYMPIA” BATTLESHIP.

Although this boat has had a full restoration, it is still quite impressive and can stop the ordinary person in their tracks. It’s incomprehensible how this toy was made for a child in the early 20th century, why it perhaps weighed more than the child itself. Elaborate would be an understatement. This boat had 15 cannons alone, but only four lifeboats. Obviously some of the crew would be left behind. The Marklin toy company was the absolute master in creating incredible toys in miniature form from the real thing. Forgetting all the intricacies of the boat itself, the paintwork alone is second to none. It is obvious why toys of this nature are so highly sought after today. A clockwork motor with a spring the size of Rhode Island is contained within the hull, which powered the boat across many ponds and lakes. A fabulous toy with great presence. SIZE: 41″ l. CONDITION: Overall older professional restoration with appropriate aging to finish. Some probable new pieces and parts such as lifeboats, masts, etc. 45146-22 (28,000-32,000) – Lot 2037
