PAINTED PINE FIREBOARD WITH ARCHED TOP.

Second quarter 19th century, York County, Pennsylvania. This rare example depicting a stone house in Pennsylvania taste, beside a road facing a larger tree. Striated sky suggesting a sunrise or sunset. Note: Approximately six fireboards by the same hand with similar designs are known: three from the Babcock Collection used on a Long Island Estate “HARK AWAY”. Another by this hand was published in Architectural Digest Magazine in December 1991, illustrated on page 145. SIZE: 32-1/2″ h x 31-3/4″ w. PROVENANCE: From a southern New Hampshire collection.
