GUNTHERMANN MUSICIAN & BALLERINA AND EARLY TIGHTROPE WALKER.

1) Classic late 19th century Gunthermann hand painted toy with a clown seated atop a drum and as he plays his clarinet, the ballerina dances to the plink plank plunk music. Overall the toy is in untouched, as found condition with heavier paint loss to the clown’s head as well as fabric clothing loss to the ballerina. In working order, but in need of some fine adjustments to mechanism. 2) Of European manufacture and reminiscent of the early Ferdnand Martin toys, but believed to be the work of Muller & Kadeder of Nuremberg, Germany. Commonly referred to as a string toy, the child would stretch a string across the room and placing the fellow on the inclined string. It would give the appearance of carefully walking the tightrope. Within his hands he holds his balance pole (replaced). He is finely painted in appropriate coloring. SIZE: 8-1/2” l x 4” w and 10” h (figure is 6-1/2” h), respectively. CONDITION: As stated above, quite possibly clown had music stand directly in front of him, which is no longer present. Second toy appears to be in original condition with good plus paint overall. 49071-1 (2,500-3,500) – Lot 2033
