MARTIN MYSTERIOUS BALL.An incredibly designed and great mechanical toy from the earlier part of the 20th century and a true case of toy form copying real life. The concept of this toy was actually a circus act for the latter part of the 19th and earlier part of the 20th century of a gentleman enclosed within a ball moving upwards in a spiral fashion and when reaching the top, he would open his ball and appear before the mystified crowds. A truly ingenious and imaginative toy which is often susceptible to damage and/or broken mechanical aspects. This particular example is in fine working order. Oftentimes the lithograph becomes soiled and/or worn, yet this example is in very good overall original litho finish. At some point and time a new string has replaced the frail cord, thus allowing the child or adult to watch this feat. SIZE: Approx 14″ t. PROVENANCE: From the Laurence Hapgood Estate. CONDITION: Overall condition as stated above. A nice example with great action. 49003-10 (1,000-1,500) – Lot 2011 Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2015 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
