UNSIGNED (American, Early 19th Century) PAIR OF ANCESTRAL PORTRAITS.

Two oils on canvas half portraits of a man and woman set against a dark red background. The woman, wearing an empire-waist dress with white shawl and cap, is inscribed lower left “March 1803” and lower right “Aged 62”. The gentleman wearing a brown waistcoat with brass buttons and white collar, is inscribed lower left “March 1803” lower right “Age 63”. Housed in an arched gilt gesso wood frame. SIZE: 30″ x 25″ (each). Overall: 36″ x 31″ CONDITION: Both canvases are laid down on Masonite and surface grime. Gentleman has minor touch up in face and restoration lower right. Woman has several small scratches to paint surface and restoration throughout face and in dress. Both frames have significant losses. 9-96459 (1,000-1,500) – Lot 2008
