PRATT & LETCHWORTH HOOK & LADDER.

Delicate, intricately cast, visually appealing to the eye this cast iron toy from the late 19th century is a stand alone toy! The body of the ladder wagon is enameled in dark green and black with a multitude of gold highlighting, and the horses themselves are of a caramel and black coloring. As was typical of P&L, their horses varied and these handsome studs are in a full running position and attached to the yoke by means of a pin projecting into their stomachs and the front wheels are wired so as the fire wagon is pulled along the horses emulate a galloping type motion, all while the clacker on the front axle dings the bell. Another all original fine example from the Hapgood collection right down to the ladders, fireman and even three of the four chains connecting the horses to the yoke. Due to the frailty and thinness of the castings, often these toys have damage and/or repairs but not so with this one! SIZE: Overall length (not including wooden ladder) 22-3/4″ l. PROVENANCE: From the Laurence Hapgood Estate. CONDITION: As stated above, overall condition very good to fine with some flaking to top of tin behind driver’s seat. 49003-5 (1,500-2,500) – Lot 2005
