REVOLUTIONARY WAR ERA LION POMMEL AMERICAN LIGHT HORSE CAVALRY SABER.

This is most unusual circa 1780 American made slotted guard sword with well-chased lion pommel, with most unusual grip made from strips of baleen. Norm Flayderman cataloged this sword in 1989, but noted the grip as being spiral carved horn which is not correct. Use of baleen will most likely denotes manufacture in the Northeast near the whaling industry. Sword measures 38-1/4″ overall with a 33″ single fullered American forged blade.
