*LEFAUCHEUX PATENT BREECH OVER/UNDER SHOTGUN. Cal. 12ga. Most unusual French made shotgun with 26-3/4″ plain superposed bbls, integral to the receiver with solid side ribs and checkered walnut side panels as a forearm. The receiver is flat with two case colored loading ports/breech blocks, with the makers name and address engraved on top. Lifting a small lever at the back of each breech block on the right side causes the block to rotate to the left exposing the chamber. Loading a round depresses the extractor and allows the breech block to close. There apparently is no safety for the dbl. triggers. Depressing a small knurled thumbnail shaped latch on the left side of the receiver allows the buttstock to rotate and be detached. This apparently is an attempt at a takedown feature to reduce length for transportation. The buttstock is close grained walnut with fine checkered straight grip, 13-3/4″ over a checkered butt. NSN. CONDITION: Very good. Bbls and receiver retain 95-98% strong bright blue. The top breech block retains about 95% bright case colors while the bottom one retains about 60% with some deep pitting. Wood is sound and retains most of a fine oil finish. Bright shiny bores. A true curiosity. 4-45963 JR437 (1,000-2,000)
