*1940 MAUSER BANNER EAGLE “L” POLICE LUGER. Cal. 9mm. Fine black finish Luger with 4″ bbl, 1940 chamber date, Mauser banner on the toggle link. Made without straw colors, full checkered wood grips with one black body aluminum base matching numbered magazine. Based on data supplied by Sayre, Cate, Pearson and Costanzo (1977), there appears to have been 3300 of these pistols, of which only 62 have been reported. SN. 4766x. CONDITION: Excellent plus, all matching, including the magazine, retains virtually all its original shiny black finish with light muzzle wear, light thinning to the sideplate and fine edge wear elsewhere with a gray backstrap. Sear safety is missing. Grips are fine with very light diamond point wear and a mashed spot on the right side. Bright shiny bore. 4-46057 JR480 (1,300-1,800)
