*L.C. SMITH EAGLE GRADE DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 ga. Small sidelock action with 30” barrels, choked Improved-Modified/Modified, having ejectors and “Hunter One Trigger”. The barrels are marked over the chamber areas with the maker’s name, grade and address. There is a single wide gold band through the rib. The receiver and lockplates are nicely engraved with a relief flying pheasant on the left side and flying duck on the right side with a eagle on the opening lever. The game scenes have a fine punch dot shaded background, as does some of the arabesque pattern engraving on the receiver. The safety is full checkered. The wood is very nice flame grain walnut with black tipped splinter forearm and checkered straight stock, 14-1/4” over a brown white-line waffle recoil pad. SN FWE47392. CONDITION: The barrels retain 96-97% strong bright original blue, the receiver and lockplates retain about 50% faded case colors with the balance turned silver. The buttstock has a 1/2” hairline back of the right lockplate, otherwise the wood is sound and retains most of its original finish, with a small gouge near the toe of the buttstock and several small nicks on the left side.
