*CUSTOM GRIFFIN & HOWE ENGRAVED REMINGTON MODEL 11 SEMI-AUTO SHOTGUN. Cal. 12ga. Spectacular one of a kind, engraved and gold inlaid, Remington. This beautiful gun was rebuilt at Griffin & Howe and the left side of the bbl is engraved “REBUILT BY GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK” and the Cal. “12 GAUGE” and “IMPR.CYL.” are also engraved on the left side of the bbl. Receiver is wonderfully engraved, probably by Joe Fugger, although no signature could be found. The engraving is of the quality only done by a senior master engraver of the 20’s and 30’s period as employed by such firms as Griffin & Howe. The engraving on this wonderful shotgun consists of a large panel on the left side of a flock of seven raised gold ducks landing in a cattail bed with fine detail background. There are several smaller panels with oak-leaf and acorn patterns and another with arabesque, oak-leaf, acorn and Greek key patterns. The right side of the receiver is equally well embellished of a seascape scene with seven raised gold geese landing in a marsh with a lighthouse in the background. Also surrounded with oak-leaf and acorn patterns, some with arabesque and Greek key patterns. The top of the receiver has a 5/16″ wide matted area the full length and each side is covered with extremely fine arabesque patterns and oak-leaf and acorn patterns. Each side of the bbl beside the rib has engraving that extends 4-1/2″ and is patterns of oak-leaves, acorns and Greek keys. The bottom of the receiver and triggerguard are also engraved with arabesque, oak-leaf and acorn patterns. The metal grip cap is covered with fine arabesque patterns. The bbl is 26″ with ventilated rib. As part of the Griffin & Howe rebuild, they modified the rear of the receiver and built a buttstock to cover the entire rear end to give it the streamlined look of more modern shotgun. The buttstock is beautiful, marble cake Circassian with very fine checkered side panels (probably 32-line) and extensively covered pistol grip. The forearm is also highly figured walnut in the original Model 11 shape with extensive coverage, fine checkering. The trigger has been checkered. Length of pull is 14-3/4″ over a solid red recoil pad. This shotgun is the mate to another in this auction, of equal or better quality and are two of the finest custom engraved guns this cataloger has ever had the privilege to examine. CONDITION: As new retaining virtually all the original custom Griffin & Howe finish to both metal and wood with only very minor handling and storage marks. 4-46174 JR510 (8,000-12,000)
