*VERY RARE CHARLES DALY DIAMOND GRADE DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 28ga. Tiny, exquisite, small action box lock Daly with 24″ bbls, tapered matted rib, single brass bead, engraved “CHARLES DALY DIAMOND QUALITY”, choked IMP-MOD/CYL. Each bbl is engraved on the top “WHITTEN EXCELSIOR STEEL” with dbl. lump and Greener cross bolt. The receiver has dbl. scalloped back edges, cocked indicators, fine scalloped fences with side clips, tiny side panels and rounded action. Receiver, opening lever, top tang and triggerguard are wonderfully engraved with extremely fine arabesque patterns with the makers name on both sides. The engraving extends 1-1/2″ up the bbls and around the breech ends. The bottom of the receiver has a panel with two dogs in bank note-style surrounded by extremely fine arabesque patterns. The triggerguard is likewise engraved with two flying woodcock and very fine arabesque patterns. Wood is very close grained, center crotch cut, flame grain walnut with tiny checkered splinter forearm having a schnable horn tip and raised carved border around the opening lever iron. The stock has straight grip with tear drop checkered side panels with about 26-line checkering, 14-3/4″ over a checkered butt, with slight cast off, 1-1/4″ drop at the comb and 2-1/8″ at the heel, weighs 4lbs 14oz. It is fitted with ejectors and checkered dbl. triggers that are set for right hand. It is accompanied by its original green velvet lined leather trunk case with a Shoverling, Daly & Gales leather label in the lid. SN 1946. CONDITION: Bbls retain 98-99% fine original blue. Receiver, 98-99% strong case colors, slightly faded on the bottom. Triggerguard retains 70% case colors turned silver on the tang. Wood is outstanding retaining virtually all its original oil finish. Brilliant shiny bores. Case is fine with some slight fading to the interior and is missing a divider. The carrying handle is also missing. Exterior is strong with normal use, scuffs and nicks.
