A copy of a letter accompanies the lot from a Mr. Karl C. Lippard, the Retail Division Manager for Pachmayr. In the letter dated 1988, he states that Mr. Bruce Baker, President of Pachmayr, while in Europe attending the I. W. A. Shoot heard a great deal of talk about the superior quality of a locally prominent gun maker by the name of Desanzani. Mr. Baker visited the Desanzani workshop in Brescia, Italy and as a result had two shotguns commissioned, this 20ga. and another in a 12ga. The wood was personally selected by Mr. Baker and he also selected the master engraver Gianfranco Lancini of Gardone, Italy. (“Example of his work is found on page 233 or “Modern Firearm Engraving” by Mario Abbiatico.”) The gun was delivered in 1986 and according to factory records was shown at exhibition with other high grade guns at the Pachmayr booth in the New Orleans Shot Show of that year, but not offered for sale at that time. According to Mr. Lippard in his letter, he maintains that in 1988 the Desanzani was the finest handmade over/under shotguns in the world at that time. (“Fabbri is not handmade”). CONDITION: In the original letter from Pachmayr, there is a mention of a small damage to a piece of the wood that took place some time one of the shipments that was properly repaired by Pachmayr. If this information were not part of the letter, it would never be known or detected as apparently the problem was insignificant and the restoration was such that it would never, ever be detected. Otherwise the gun is outstanding, pristine, as new, retaining virtually all its fine bright finish on the receiver and factory blue on the bbls. Wood retains about all of its fine original oil finish. Appears to be unfired. Case is equally new. 4-46179 JR495 (40,000-60,000)
