LOT OF EIGHT EARLY PHOTOGRAPHS, SEVEN OF INDIANS. 1) 3-7/8″ x 2-3/8″ black and white of three Indian women in long dresses, shawls and beads. Dry mounted on a cabinet card marked “JOHN PHILLIPS STANLEY WI” with old handwriting on the back with the three women names in Indian language. 2) Postcard size black and white of Indian man in a suit and a Caucasian woman in long dress and hat. Photographer G.W. Parsons, Pawhuska, OT. The back is written in old quill ink with the Indians name and age 56 indicating that he is full blood “Osage” and “CANNOT TALK ENGLISH” and that the woman is his wife, age 27 “WHITE WOMAN/CANNOT TALK OSAGE”. Married August, 1901. 3) Another postcard size black and white photo from the same photographer of a young Indian couple in a studio setting. 4) Another postcard size from the same photographer of a seated Indian man in shirt and vest with a blanket over his knees wearing moccasins. 5) Another postcard size photo from the same photographer of a young Indian boy in Cadet uniform in the same studio setting. 6) Another postcard size photo from the same photographer of a Caucasian couple in wedding clothes. 7) Another postcard size photo from the same photographer of a young Indian man in the same studio setting wearing shirt, vest and neckerchief with a blanket across his knees wearing very fancy beaded moccasins. 8) Horizontal image 7-1/2″ x 4-9/16″ of two young men in Turn of the Century cowboy costume kneeling on a road with horse and trees in the background. Each aiming a rifle. One on right has 1886 Winchester with a full bandoleer of ammunition, is wearing a snake belt buckle and has a revolver in his boot top. The other young and is holding a Mauser Sporting rifle, has a revolver in the pocket of his chaps and is about to make a bad mistake if he sits further back on his spurs. There is old pencil writing on the bottom indicating the young man of the left is “Cap. Stockwell” and the other, appears to be “Angel Stockwell” and the horse is named “Bullfinch”. CONDITION: The first seven photographs are sharp and clear and in fine condition. Number 8 photo is sepia-toned, slightly faded but the image is still fine. The card backing is slightly water stained, has broken corner, fly specked and soiled. 4-47037 JR536 (500-1,000)
