SAMUEL BAUM KENTUCKY TYPE RIFLE. Approx. Cal. 45, 42″ bbl. Lock marked “C. Bird & Co., Philadelphia” and has been converted to percussion. Large brass patchbox with piercing and scroll work, brass buttplate, brass triggerguard, brass thimble. Very nice scroll engraving left side of stock between cheekpiece and buttplate, may not be contemporary to gun. German silver crescent inlay at each wedge, tiger maple stock. Circular silver escutcheon plate on top of wrist. CONDITION: “S.B.” initials on top flat of oct. bbl, which has dark brown overall patina. Lock and hammer also dark brown overall patina, both have very minor pitting. Brass furniture all highly polished. Half of brass inlaid toeplate approx. 2″ broken and in patchbox. 4-46202 (3,000-4,000)
