VERY UNUSUAL PERCUSSION GUN (?). NSN. Cal. 50, Tiger maple stock. Starting at the breech 9-7/8″ round section and then a 33-5/8″ oct. section; marked on the bottom “POSTLEY, NELSON & Co” – they were bbl makers in Pittsburgh. This assemblage is screwed into a 4″ long, 3″ dia cylinder which is attached to a. 2″ x 1-1/2″ x 9-3/4″ (including 3-screw tang) breech, giving us a grand total of 49-1/4″ of bbl assembly with no sights or other features which might indicate its use. Lock is marked “G.D. & Co./CINN/O”. Hammer is bent in an “S” shape form to allow the nose to reach from where the lock is mounted to where the nipple is. There is a matching 15″ heavy iron piece screwed to the bottom of the large cylinder which includes the triggerguard and a 3″ x 3/8″ tube, the purpose of which is not known either. Almost everyone who sees this has a different explanation for what it might be. One reoccurring idea was that it was a line throwing gun?? CONDITION: Rust-brown patina. Stock is battered. 4-47066 (2,000-3,000)
