COLT FIRST MODEL DRAGOON TYPE REVOLVER. SN 7318, matching except cylinder which has no visible serial number and wedge which has no number. Cal. .44, 7-1/2″ part oct. bbl. The frame has “U.S.” marking but no sub-inspector marks have been found. CONDITION: Deeply pitted on all iron parts. Backstrap shows sign of work but is now mellowed to the same color as the trigger guard. Parts of the cylinder scene are still visible where the metal did not contact the damp surface. Bbl marking has been stamped in a very small die. Ivory grips show natural cracks and both are slightly warped. The rifling is straight, not gain twist, and the conclusion reached is that this is a copy, artificially aged to deceive the unwary buyer. An attractive display piece. 4-46312 FS87 (1,000-1,500)
