INTERESTING HARPER’S FERRY MODEL 1821 MUSKET WITH BAYONET. NSN. Cal. .69, 42″ bbl. Ramrod and bayonet are incorrect replacements. This is a good re-conversion using mostly new parts. Bbl has several markings not found on standard Harper’s Ferry guns. Left flat is marked with the New Hampshire surcharge. Top surface is marked with “MLM.” above the Harper’s Ferry proof marks and “R. EVANS” closer to the top of the bbl. This stamp is also on the left flat of the bbl, partially defaced by two large dents. The latter marking is possibly for the conversion to percussion. Lockplate is dated 1827 but the date on the tang is not readable due to dents. Tang screw is a replacement. The initials “BAB” inside a diamond have been carved on the right side of the butt. Three sets of inspector marks are on the left side of the stock. CONDITION: Gray to brown patina overall with light to moderate pitting. Stock is solid but has been varnished to cover repaired cracks and chips. Bayonet is deeply pitted. FS874 4-47522 (1,500-2,500)
