UNUSUAL KENTUCKY FLINTLOCK RIFLE WITH DERINGER SIGNATURE. NSN. Cal. 50, 40-1/2″ oct. bbl. 7/8″ copper oval at the breech is marked “H.DERINGER” across the top with grain across the bottom. Matching 2″ oval on the cheek-piece has a running deer. Marked “WARRANTED” on the lock. The unusual half circle side opening patchbox is opened by a push button on the bottom. There is a full wear plate running from the triggerguard to the tail pipe. Engraving matches that on the brass toeplate and decorative plates to the sides of the buttplate. The six bbl key escutcheons match the cheek-piece and wrist ovals. Ramrod has been replaced. CONDITION: Blackish patina with moderate pitting on the bbl. Reconverted lock appears to be original to this gun. There are some light grain cracks in the curly maple stock which appears to have been lightly sanded and refinished. A nice appearing rifle.
