U.S. SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1898 KRAG CARBINE.SN 119862. Cal .30 US, 22″ bbl, blue and case hardened finish. Straight grain American walnut stock with handguard. Bbl has front sight hood, bbl band is of the high hump type. Rear sight is of carbine type with “C” stamped on upper right side. Hand guard is of the short type. Receiver is marked “Model 1898” in front of U.S. Springfield Armory and SN on left side. Bolt has a faint inspector mark on bottom of handle. Stock has an inspector cartouche “JLA” over “1898” in rectangle on left side over trigger. Stock has a circle “P” proof behind trigger guard with “H.D.R.” stamped in front of it. There is a “60” stamped in front of receiver on right side. Hand guard is unmarked. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl shows an even plumb brown patina overall with some high-point wear and minor rub marks. Bbl band shows 50% bright blue. Rear sight is very good. Receiver is a dark brown black patina with remnants of black oil quenched case hardening. Loading door shows traces of blue blending to a gray brown patina. Extractor is a plumb brown patina with slight traces of fire-blue. Bolt handle is a plumb brown patina with traces of case color in protected areas. Stock is very good with minimal dents and bruises and sharp markings. Hand guard is very good with a few minor dents. A very good Model 1898 Krag Carbine that could have seen service in the Spanish American War and the Philippines Insurrection. 49767-6 TEP (3,500-4,500) – Lot 1716
