CIVIL WAR OFFICERS FIELD DESK. 30″ w x 19-3/4′ h X11″ d with drop down lid with the initials “KFF” stenciled on the front. The center drawer inside is marked “KEEP OUT/USCT 60/INF./SURGEON”. “KFF” has been identified as Knowles F. Freeman who served with the 60th Iowa Infantry from its inception until June 1864 when it was assigned to the 7th Corp in Arkansas. The 60th Infantry was a black regiment with the “USCT” stencil standing for “US Colored Troops”. Besides the marked center drawer, the interior contains another identical drawer unmarked, two large compartments, and eight small compartments. A similar stencil is on the back of the chest. There is a large lot of papers identifying the unit. CONDITION: Generally good with about 6″ of the molding missing on the top and numerous dents and scratches along the edges.
