*MERKEL 303E SIDELOCK EJECTOR SINGLE TRIGGER OVER-UNDER GAME GUN WITH VERY FINE HUNTING SCENE ENGRAVING AND EXTRA BARRELS W/CASE.

SN 58967. (1963) Cal. 12 ga/ 12 ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 27-5/8″ Demi-bloc bbls stamped “1” and “2” on loops, are fitted with low, matted, ventilated ribs. Makers name and scroll engraving are at breech ends. Bbl set “1” is choked full and full; bbl set “2” is choked Skeet and Skeet. Coin finished, double Kersten O/U action features automatic safety and single non-selective trigger. It is fitted with hand detachable sidelocks with engine turned internals. Action is engraved with full coverage well cut, large, open, shaded scroll. Lockplates are engraved with semi-relief hunting scenes; a setter contemplating a trio of departing pheasant from open woodlands is on left, with a pointer flushing four quail on right. “GEBRUDER MERKEL” is on bottom of action. Nicely marbled and lightly figured European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/4″ over red Old English pad. Point pattern checkering is at grip, which has chinstrap transition to butt. A large silver oval engraved “NN” is set into bottom of pistol grip. Matching ejector forend with Deeley release services both sets of bbls. Modern leather bound trunk case for xbbls. PROVENANCE: The Timothy Scott Collection. CONDITION: Excellent, with evidence of very limited field use, retaining nearly all its factory finishes on wood and metal, with some light handling marks.
