LOT OF ELEVEN CIVIL WAR LETTERS, TINTYPE AND SERVICE CERTIFICATE. “I had my flag staff shot off and eleven holes shot through the flag” – 6/12/62, Chickahony, Virginia. Alexander Katon was sergeant of the color guard, Co. B 11th Maine. Excellent content from the Virginia campaigns. Includes a tintype of him in uniform wearing his sword and a large cabinet view of his wife. A certificate of service with engraved signature of Joshua Chamberlain, framed. Descriptions of battles, casualties, camps and scenes along the road. Letters are legible and many have envelopes. Slight yellowing. Additional related letters and a tribute letter (“the Color Bearer 11th Reg. Maine Vol. at the Battle of Fair Oaks. A brave soldier. Honest man and a Christian citizen.”) among them.
