FRENCH ENLISTEDMAN’S BLACK FELT BICORN-TYPE CHAPEAU. A standard French army infantry dress hat of the style dating to the period 1850-70. A black felt hat with the front and back brim tipped up and formed around the body of the crown. The hat is decorated by a red, silver and blue silk cockade with white feather pom-pom. The interior is lined with unmarked dark green polished cotton and has a 2.5″ high thin leather sweat band. CONDITION: The hat shows medium wear with staining to the sweat band and interior lining. The felt is strong but has minor cracks and light chipping at the edge of the brim. The crown is a bit weak. 4-46111 (700-900)
