RARE LARGE CHROMOLITH PLATEBOOK “SPORT OR FISHING AND SHOOTING”. This large format book edited by A. C. Gould and published by Bradlee Whidden in Boston, 1889 is a terrific old colorful depiction of sporting scenes from the late 19th Century. The book features 15 large chromolithograph sporting scenes by some of the most famous sporting artists of the day. Including A. B. Frost, Henry Sandham, F. H. Taylor, F. S. Cozzens, Frederick Remington, R. F. Zogbaum and S. F. Denton. These large plates depict salmon fishing, trout fishing, bass fishing, waterfowl hunting, big game hunting and all of the plates were taken from actual watercolors by these various artists. Each of these plates would be wonderful for framed illustrations. SIZE: 22″ h x 16″ w. CONDITION: The cover is damaged, stained and soiled. The interior has foxing on most of the pages and some staining on the inside back cover. Remarkably however, all of the chromolithograph plates still have their glassine protective coverings and thus the illustrations are almost all in excellent condition. The only exception is the very last one depicting elk, which has some staining on the white margin, (does not go into the image of the picture). This book has always been a very desirable book because of its terrific sporting illustrations. 4-47091 (3,000-4,000)
